ABSTRACT
Report on the SRW: 98 pp., 6 chapters, 10 tables, 24 figures, 86 references.
The research objects are the Yastrubetsky zirconium-rare-earth ore deposit and the Azov zirconium-yttrium-rare-earth deposit.
The purpose of the work is a comprehensive scientific study of zircon ores using the example of zircon and other minerals in connection with the study of the content and distribution of rare earth elements (REEs) and Hf for different types of deposits using the example of the Azov deposit and the Yastrubetsky ore strike.
X-ray phase analysis and microprobe analysis were the main methods of experimental research. Samples were also examined by EPR and high-resolution NMR.
The results of the study showed that the spectrum of rare earths in the zircon of the Yastrubetsky orebody is essentially yttrium, and in the Azov deposit - cerium. Zircons of the Yastrubetsky orebody contain HfO2(0.7-1.46%), UO2(0.06-0.54%), ThO2(0-0.51%), REE2O3(0.24-0.89%), Y2O3(0-1.1%). Zircons of the Azov massif contain Hf(0.9-1.1%), U(0-0.06%), Th(0-0.04%), LREE(0.4-1.4%), HREE(0.04-0.14%), Y(0.16-0.4% ).
The increased content of U and Th oxides in the zircons of the Yastrubetsky orebody (0.1 - 0.55%) is one of the reasons for their metamict state, compared to the Azov ones. It was established that НREE in Yastrubetz zircons can be extracted in the technology of obtaining refined zirconium dioxide. A trend of increasing REE content in more metamict zircon from alkaline rocks and granites was revealed. It is assumed that REE3+ ions are localized in the metamict phase in mineral form.
The obtained results may contribute to the search for Hf, Y and REEs with the least environmental risks.
