ABSTRACT
Report on the RW: 220 pp., 6 chapters, 39 tables, 74 figures, 100 sources.
The object of the study is the soils, natural waters, vegetation, atmospheric precipitation of the ancient forests of the Ukrainian Carpathians (the Chornohirsk, Ugolsk-Shyrokoluzhansk, Svydovetsk, Marmarosk, Kuzii-Trybushansk seed massifs of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve).
The purpose of scientific research is to determine the geochemical features of the environmental objects of the anciental forests of the Ukrainian Carpathians (UNESCO World Natural Heritage), as a basis for ecosystem monitoring and ecological-geochemical assessment of these territories.
Research methods. Complex of analytical methods: chemical, spectral, atomic absorption, ion-selective, ICP–MS and others; thermodynamic calculations and mathematical modeling. The background and anomalous content of chemical elements in environmental objects (soils, natural waters, atmospheric precipitation and vegetation) of primeval forest territories was established; geochemical features of migration and concentration of chemical elements in soils are determined; revealed biogeochemical features of vegetation, hydrochemical indicators of natural waters; possible sources of snow cover contamination have been identified. Geochemical criteria have been developed for determining and forecasting the ecological and geochemical state of environmental objects in the primeval forests of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The implementation of the developed ecological-geochemical assessment makes it possible to take measures to reproduce disturbed ecosystems and bring them closer to their natural state. The results of the research were implemented on the territory of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.
