M.P. Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of NAS of Ukraine

A meeting was held between the President of the NAS of Ukraine and the Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine with the employees of the Institute

On November 18, 2022, at the M.P. Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of the NAS of Ukraine, a meeting was held between the President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Anatoly Zagorodny, and the Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Section of Physical, Technical and Mathematical Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Vyacheslav Bogdanov, with the employees of the Institute.

The Director of the Institute, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Ponomarenko, acquainted the guests with the most significant results of the Institute's activities. Scientific research is currently being carried out at the Institute in the following areas:
– geochemistry of rock and ore formation processes, exploration geochemistry and environmental geochemistry;
– regional and genetic mineralogy, mineral physics, nanomineralology;
– petrology of endogenous processes;
– geology, metallogeny and forecasting of mineral deposits in Ukraine.

Deputy Director for Scientific Work, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Leonid Stepaniuk described the structure of the Institute, staff, the most important achievements in recent years, and outlined the prospects for the further development of the Institute.

During the meeting, which took place in the Small Conference Hall of the Institute, the scientists had the opportunity to ask questions to the leadership of the NAS of Ukraine and talk about their scientific research. The leadership of the Academy thanked and wished the team further fruitful work for the benefit of Ukraine.

The guests were also interested in the activities of the postgraduate program and support for young scientists, and got acquainted with the work of the Center for Collective Use of Instruments of the NAS of Ukraine "Mass Spectrometric Center for Solid-Phase, Gas Isotope and Trace Element Analysis" and the laboratories of the Institute:
– Isotope Geology, Department of Radiogeochronology;
– Trace Element and Isotope Analysis, Department of Isotope Geochemistry and Mass Spectrometry;
– Electron Microscopy, Department of Diamond Problems.

3. Introduction to the JSM-6700F field emission scanning electron microscope

The leadership of the NAS of Ukraine visited the Mineralogical Museum named after Academician V.I. Vernadsky, which has been working at the Institute since 2019 as a scientific department. The mineralogical collection of Bulla was founded back in 1978. Currently, the collection fund includes more than 7,000 samples, representing almost 1,000 mineral species and their varieties. In terms of the variety of minerals, the museum's collection occupies a worthy place among the famous mineralogical collections of Ukraine. The collection is used for both scientific and educational purposes. The museum is quite often visited by students of higher educational institutions and schoolchildren of Kyiv.
