HORIZON EUROPE
On December 18, 2024, the kick-off meeting of the Liberation analysis for optimizing extraction and processing of CRMs (BLOOM) project was held at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, in Barcelona, Spain. This four-year project started on December 1, 2024, and is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program.

The M.P. Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of the NAS of Ukraine (IGMR NAS of Ukraine), as one of the partners of the Consortium, was presented at the meeting by the Head of the Department of Geology and Geochemistry of Ore Deposits, Doctor of Geological Sciences, Vitaliy SUKACH. Overall, the Consortium is represented by a multidisciplinary team consisting of 14 partners from Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Ukraine, Canada and Brazil.
The BLOOM project is dedicated to solving the problems faced by the EU in the fields of extraction and processing of CRMs and aims to reduce dependence on third countries, improve extraction and processing processes, restore the environment and reduce the impact on it as a result of the activities of the mining and processing industry.

To this end, an intelligent modular system will be created based on the analysis of CRMs deposit development processes, which combines a management system with artificial intelligence methods and allows optimizing the extraction and enrichment processes of critical raw materials. These actions are aimed at reducing the costs of extraction and processing, increasing financial viability, thus also contributing to the creation of profitable low-grade deposits, providing access to new reserves.
Detailed information about the project can be found at http://bloomproject.eu/.
The project is managed by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain). The Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as the leading research institution of Ukraine in the field of geology and mineral resources, acts as an important partner in achieving the project's goals. The Institute has highly qualified geologists-scientists with extensive production experience in studying various types of minerals, including CRMs: Ta-Nb, Mn, Li, Ti, natural graphite, REE, etc. The Institute of Geophysical Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine will provide scientific support for drilling within the Ta-Nb deposit of Mostovoe and comprehensive mineralogical and geochemical studies of ores, host rocks and metasomatites as part of the project.
