Endorsed by the Academic Council of the M.P. Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of NAS of Ukraine (protocol No. 9 dated September 18, 2025)
This monograph focuses on the hydrochemical characteristics and distribution of several trace elements (Pb, Mo, Cu, Zn, Li, V, Mn, Co, Ni, Cd, Sr, Ba, Cr, F, As, Ti, Sb, Al) in the drinking groundwater of Ukraine's primary aquifer systems.
It summarizes years of ecological and hydrogeochemical research on the groundwater found in the Ukrainian Shield, Dnieper-Donetsk, and Black Sea aquifer systems. The study identifies patterns in the distribution of essential and potentially toxic trace elements, their background concentrations, and migration forms, with manganese (Mn) used as a specific example. Additionally, it proposes new principles for ecological and biogeochemical zoning in Ukraine from the perspective of medical microelementology.
The findings can be utilized to enhance monitoring systems, evaluate the ecological status, and manage groundwater quality as part of state programs aimed at ensuring water security in Ukraine.
This work is relevant for specialists in hydrogeochemistry, ecology, geology, and medicine, as well as for teachers and students of natural sciences.
