Department of diamond problems

      The department develops theoretical and applied aspects of forecasting and prospecting for diamond deposits on the territory of Ukraine through the study of the material composition of mantle and impact rocks and their minerals and the identification of regularities in the formation and placement of primary and secondary diamond deposits, using at the same time traditional and modern methods of mineral research.

 

Main areas of scientific research:

1. Mineralogy and crystallography of diamond and its accompanying minerals.

2. Crystal chemistry of minerals of the Earth's upper mantle.

3. Mineralogy, petrography, petrology and geochemistry of kimberlites, lamproites, lamprophyres, impactites, various ultrabasic and basic rocks, metasedimentary and sedimentary formations of Ukraine in connection with diamond bearing.

4. Mineralogy and petrology of the upper mantle under the Ukrainian Shield.

5. Stratigraphic and mineralogical analysis of terrigenous deposits of the Ukrainian Shield and its slopes, the Carpathians and Donbas in areas promising for diamond occurrences and deposits.
