HORIZON EUROPE
The main areas of research activity of the department:
- structure, composition and genesis of deposits of non-ferrous, trace-, rare-earth, precious metals, thorium and uranium;
- geochemical zonality of ore genesis process as a base for a metallogenic analysis.
ANALYTICAL EQUIPMENT
Electron Probe Micro Analyzer JEOL JMX-733 (upgrated)
It can be used for elemental composition of solid substances or detecting specific elements on small area of 10 μm and less. Electron Probe has wave- and energy-spectrometer; software application allows carrying out measurements automatically. For sample preparation ВУП-5M coater is used. Range of elements can be detected: from B(5) to U(92). Detecting accuracy: 2%.
Secondary electron / X-ray image mode shows:
- morphology of minerals;
- composition difference (as image contrast);
- minerals distribution over sample area.
Analytical mode allows to:
- determine quantitative composition of substance;
- determine a mineral form of the object researched;
- show an X-ray map of element distribution.

Thermo ScientificTM WDXRF ARL Optim'X
X-ray fluorescence analyzer allows one to carry out qualitative and semi-quantitative analysis of rocks, slag, cement, chemicals, oxides, metals, glass, ceramics, food etc. Range of elements can be detected: from F(Z=9) to U(Z=92).
Processing of the resilts based on Thermo ScientificTM UniQuant, software which applies advanced methodology. It uses fundamental parameters and proprietary XRF-data processing algorithms.
Precise quantitative analysis can be carried out, if there is a reference standard for research object.
Research sample can be in the form of solid polished section of conductive or dielectric material, loose powder, pressed pellets, paste, granules, coating.
The analyzer equipped with Rh anode, 50W; analyzing crystals: LiF200, PET, AXO6; detectors: proportional counter, scintillation detector.
