Department of Precambrian Geology and Geodynamics (until September 1, 2020, the Department of Precambrian Geology and Chronostratigraphy).
The scientific interests of the department are determined by a fundamental problem - the origin and evolution of the Early Precambrian crust of the Ukrainian Shield.
Main scientific directions: reconstruction of the stages of the formation of the continental lithosphere of the Azov and Middle Dnieper blocks of the Ukrainian Shield in the early Precambrian (4.0-2.0 Ga) - research of geodynamic conditions magmatism and the formation of sedimentary-volcanogenic complexes, the formation of the Paleoproterozoic structure of the Ukrainian Shield, regional correlation of the early Precambrian of the Ukrainian Shield and the Voronezh crystalline massif. The geological study of Western Antarctica.

They were probably formed as a result of the transgression and regression of the Sea on the Vaalbara supercontinent about 2.6-2.4 billion years ago.
